THE MARCH REVOLUTION
The Russian Revolution was like a firecracker with a very long fuse. The explosion came in 1917, during March workers began to riot in Petrograd and eventually gained support from the soldiers. After decades of cruel oppressive rule throughout most of the 19th century the czars caused widespread unrest. Anger over social inequalities and ruthless treatment of peasants grew. The unfair government system had began to spark violent reactions. the fuse had reached the firecracker and there was no turning back, the czar had lost his only protection from the rioters and was force to abdicate from the throne. The creation of a provisional government took place, which was lead by a man named Kerensky. Kerensky lead the Petrograd Soviet and decided to continue Russian involvement in WWI, workers' Soviets grew in numbers and eventually more powerful then the provisional government. This was due to the Bolshevik party, and the workers over threw the government because they kept Russia in the war. Lenin than gained power in 1917 and completely dissolved the provisional government. The March Revolution is important to the Russian Revolution because it led to Lenin's gain of power and was the explosion that followed the long fuse of decades of Economic injustice through a peasant majority, food shortages, striking workers, and a insufficient transportation system. Also political injustice between the enormous losses in WWI, autocracy, weak ineffectual leaders, the spread of Marxist ideas, and charismatic leaders such as Lenin and Trotsky. Last Social injustices of extremes in class, deprivation resulting from WWI, and peasant desire for land. Overall the March Revolution was a big part in the Revolution.
